Meet Lars Bo Adamsen

Why he has been with SKIOLD since 1991: ‘Good products, good colleagues and good customers. That’s all there is to it’

For Lars Bo Adamsen, Sales Manager, working life started in a very special uniform. After his time as an apprentice electrician, he did his military service in the Royal Life Guard, which meant he helped look after her majesty Queen Margrethe II at Amalienborg.

After his time in the Royal Life Guard and with a certificate of apprenticeship in hand, he spent seven months working for an electrical contractor in Denmark before his sense of adventure took him to the other side of the world - Australia and New Zealand.

The following nine months were an experience of a lifetime as Lars Bo Adamsen participated in a form of exchange programme where young Danes travelled to Australia and New Zealand, while Australians and New Zealanders went to Europe.

‘I worked on a large sheep farm with 6,000-7,000 hectares of land. Fortunately, during the nine months I also had the opportunity to see most of Australia. It was a really exciting and educational few months,’ says Lars Bo Adamsen.

After his stay on the other side of the world, he didn't stay long in Denmark, as he got a job as an electrician in England.

‘It wasn't me, because the money was good, but I have to admit that it was just as quickly spent in the many English pubs,’ Lars Bo Adamsen admits with a smile.

Jump-started with sales

On 1 August 1991, his career took a new turn when he got a job at SKIOLD, then known as Datamix and based in Lind near Herning.

For the first year, he worked as an electrician with assembly in the stables. From 1991 to 1998, he worked as a service technician, after which he officially switched to the sales department.

‘I actually started in sales back in 1995,’ Lars Bo Adamsen reveals.

‘Back then, Datamix couldn't find anyone who wanted to go to Thailand to do installation work. But I contacted the sales department and said ‘I'll take it’. That was my debut as a SKIOLD employee in Thailand.’

Since then, Lars Bo Adamsen's focus has been entirely export-orientated, taking him to a variety of countries, including Ireland, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and several destinations in Asia.

‘I actually helped set up SKIOLD's office in Vietnam, and during that time I was in Vietnam once a month, so I've been in a plane a lot over the years.’

For a few years, the number of travelling days reached 100-120, but today that number has been reduced considerably to 40-50.

‘Back then I was a bachelor and had no commitments. Today it's different, so 40-50 days fits well and allows me to have a life outside of work,’ he explains.

Good products, colleagues and customers

When asked what has kept him at SKIOLD for so many years, the answer is short and sweet: ‘Good products, good colleagues and good customers. That's all there is to it.’

When he looks at SKIOLD's strengths, quality is the first thing he emphasises.

‘Quality products. We can't neglect that. In our industry, there will be competitors who push us on price. But we have quality, and customers want to pay for quality so they don't have to buy spare parts all the time.’
