The contamination of foods with mycotoxins is a well-known problem, and it is estimated by the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food that around 25% of crops worldwide are contaminated by mycotoxins.


In order to avoid fungal growth and the production of mycotoxins, it is important that crops are cleaned, sorted and dried after harvest and subsequently stored at the right temperature and humidity.


For many crops, mycotoxins are very unevenly distributed in the harvested cereals. In many cases, the content of mycotoxins can be reduced by sorting crops and remove visibly affected parts.


In other cases, humidity causes cereals to become inedible and mycotoxin contamination of feed and food becomes a major economic problem.
