Grain Storage

SKIOLD supplies grain storage silos in galvanized steel. The grain storage silos are available in two types; flat bottom silos and hopper silos. The flat bottom silos have a capacity of max. 15,000 tons. Hopper bottom silos hold up to 1,300 tons. The silos can be supplied with aeration system and temperature monitoring system.

Grain storage / grain proportioning silos are used in the SKIOLD feed mill are available in round or square shape. Round grain silos are available in either fibreglass or steel. Square silos are only available in steel. The volume is typically from 10 m³ to 150 m³

The large flat-bottom silos and hopper silos can be equipped with a system for registration of the grain temperature, consisting of a number of cables suspended from the silo roof, with sensors monitoring the grain temperature at various heights. The temperature in each silo is registered and saved in a computer, and the data used for control of the aeration of the silo.

The aeration system is used to control/lower the temperature in the grain silo, if the temperature monitoring system indicates that the temperature is increasing. Cooling and aeration of the raw materials is done by blowing or aspirating air through a channel system in the bottom of the grain storage silo or the on-floor bulk storage by means of a fan.

In flat bottom silos, the grain is discharged by means of an outlet, and a discharge/sweep auger and further additional outlet throttles are used to empty the grain silo completely. The grain is conveyed to the feed mill via a transport system, or recirculated to other silos or to a drying plant. In hopper silos, there is a throttle in the bottom of the hopper, from which the grain is transported or recirculated.
