The climate in the pig house should be optimal to secure animal welfare and health requirements
SKIOLD supplies complete climate solutions for pig farms. We strive to be at the forefront and develop our own systems in close cooperation with experts and farmers.
Independent of the climate in the area where the pig farm is situated, SKIOLD has the experience required covering all climate types from the hottest areas to the coldest. Farms operated in extreme climates, e.g. tropical areas with a hot, humid climate can be tailored on the basis of thoroughly tested components.
Energy efficient climate solutions for pig houses
All components and modules of a SKIOLD solution comply with demands for optimal climate in the pig houses for both animals and employees made by modern pig breeders all over the world. You will be the owner of a farm complex created with a focus on minimizing energy consumption and optimum indoor temperature in all climates.
SKIOLD provides modern climate control systems with optimal overview and low energy consumption. Our own team of hard- and software engineers are in charge of the continuous development of a common platform for process-controlling. VisioVent controls all climate solutions covering diffuse ventilation, controlled air intake, tunnel and combi-tunnel ventilation, as well as the related heating and cooling products.

Contrary to traditional "low-pressure equipment" the water comes at high pressure, approximately 70 bars. The patented nozzle system from SKIOLD ensures extremely fine vaporization of water. In this way, water is prevented from dripping onto the animals or pens since the water will evaporate in the air before falling down in the animal zone.
Evaporation requires energy which is taken from the air in the pig house. In this way, the cooling effect is obtained. The water consumption is very low - max 5 grams of water per cubic meter ventilated air.
The SKIOLD EVAPOCOOL system is regulated by the VisioVent or VisioVent XL climate control. A built-in stop for maximum humidity prevents overdosing. Animals and equipment must not become wet and the air inside the pig house must not be humid or sultry.
The intelligent regulation of the cooling is adjusted gradually in relation to the demand. In this way, the most appropriate cooling effect is obtained without big fluctuation of temperature and humidity.
SKIOLD EVAPOCOOL can also be used for soaking in connection with cleaning.
Pigs are non-sweating animals and are therefore easily affected by high temperatures. Thus it is very important that the pigs can be cooled - either by dunking themselves or being sprinkled with water by a sprinkling system. By sprinkling the dunging area with certain intervals the pigs are encouraged to dung in the dunging area instead of the lying area. Hereby the sprinkling system is used to control the pigs' natural behaviour and improves the hygienic state of the pig pens. Sprinkling has a good effect on the well-being of the pigs releasing them from heat stress and not at least reducing the ammonia odours due to less dunging in the lying area.
The sprinkling system is controlled by a SKIOLD climatic control (VisioVent or VisioVent XL). A solenoid valve automatically turns the water on/off depending on the outdoor temperature and/or preset time intervals. The water pipes are connected to the water mains and sprinkle in the dunging area by non-return sprinkling nozzles. In pig houses without climatic control function for sprinkling, a thermostat (T-41) and a solenoid valve with a time interval for stop/start at a set temperature can be installed.
SKIOLD soaking
By installing an extra water pipeline in the stable it is possible to soak the pens to facilitate the cleaning procedure. The nozzles in the water pipe sprinkle the water in a horizontal angle of 360° soaking all the surface with water. After a few hours of soaking, cleaning is much easier. Start and stop of the soaking process is done by a manually operated ball valve installed on the water pipe.
A diffuse air intake is a principle where the fresh air is lead to the room through the ceiling construction, taking the air from the attic. The air is coming through the insulation mat and cladding, and the air speed is thus reduced when having to penetrate this ceiling material. So, the idea with diffuse ventilation is to have a big open intake area, however with reduced airspeed in order to prevent draft, especially in cold periods. This principle is very suitable in relatively cold areas, but absolutely not to be recommended as the only option in areas with high summer temperatures.
In practice, it is important to choose the right type and amount of insulation mat as well as being careful to establish the correct amount of edge covering. This is essential in order to establish the correct amount of air as well as the correct negative pressure for the benefit of the animals. All these factors to be obtained in interaction with the amount of exhaust air, which is suitable for the animals in the section.
At SKIOLD we possess the experience and expertise in establishing a diffuse air intake. We have the knowhow using the necessary components as well as the composition in order to obtain the optimal diffuse air intake.
Ceiling inlets
In buildings with flat ceiling or inadequate volume most often ceiling inlets are used.
Like the wall inlets, the ceiling inlets are mounted with an isolated inlet box and -flap, counteracting condensation and freezing.
The ceiling inlets are integrated with the ceiling cladding, and the air is thus taken into the section via the attic. They are available in PE (polyethylene) and PUR (polyurethane), the choice is typically done according to the need for insulation.
The interlinking is done according to the same principles as for the wall inlets.

LA12
The LA12 servomotor controls the damper inside the chimney. The colored diodes on the outside of the LA12 control box is constantly giving a feedback from the monitoring and operating status. This is a real advantage at your daily operation check because you do not need to access the chimney but is having the full view from the diode indicators from distance.
The servo motor is positioning the damper within a span from 0 to 90° and is thus constantly optimizing the angle in accordance with the exhaust capacity. Further it contributes to maintaining a constant negative pressure inside the section, because it is compensating for the varying outside pressure onto the building.
LA35
The LA35 has the task of adjusting the opening level of the air intake, for instance the wall and ceiling inlets, thus having an essential impact on the optimization of the climate inside the section.
The servo motor has great reliability, long lifetime and a lot of smart functions, which contribute to a lot of useful information about the air intake. In the event of a power failure, the LA35 will automatically provide the optimal emergency setting of the air intake elements. This operation is secured via the built-in emergency power battery.
LA35 is the motorized unit which interlinks the complete ventilation system by coordinating the functions of the intake and the exhaust. The built-in potentiometer safeguards that the settings are absolute accurate. If inaccuracies are detected, the system will automatically carry out a test and adjust the system back to the correct position and setting. Also, the LA35 is equipped with color diodes, which are constantly indicating the operating status.
